After learning more about Nicaragua this morning from a guest speaker, we headed back to the health clinic and got to work. Even though it was a long and tiring day yesterday, everyone was ready to jump back in! We continued to assemble the earthquake proof columns, paint the storage room, work in the pharmacy, build walls in the new building, and shadow doctors. Emily saw many patients and was able to insert birth control implants. Currently, the JHC is accepting donations to provide even more women with these implants, which cost $45.00 each and prevent pregnancy for 3 years. If you are interested in donating visit https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/jhc-cdca and be sure to write ´Implants´ when asked what you want your donation to be dedicated to.
In the pharmacy we (Cori & Tasnia) had the opportunity to work with Daniella, the pharmacist. At first we were nervous that our (lack of) Spanish skills would make it difficult to connect and communicate, but Daniella´s patience made us feel very comfortable asking questions. We learned about her role at the clinic and medical school in Nicaragua. We really appreciate the opportunities we have to talk with the people of Nueva Vida and their willingness to share their experiences with us.
Tomorrow we are off to El Porvenir! We will be learning more about the coffee co-op and then heading to Leon for a tour of the Cathedral. We are very excited to explore more of this amazing country!
