We have arrived in Nicaragua! We got here safely yesterday at 11:00 am and were ready to explore. We had the great opportunity to meet some locals and visited some amazing historical sites. First stop on our trip was the National Palace where we learned about the Sandinista Revolution and about various influential historical figures. Next we went to a house owned by JHC where we had the opportunity to see amazing art splattered onto the wall. After we went to the grocery store to pick up some snacks and any other necessities. The last stop was Gerardo’s House, a powerful and passionate Nicaraguan artist. We learned about his inspiring story and met his wife, as well has looked at a lot of his artwork. Some of us even bought some beautiful art to take home! We arrived at CEPS later on in the day and took refreshing showers. Later we had orientation and met Cassie, the doctor that will be on the trip with us. She informed us of certain precautions to take while in Nicaragua, emphasizing the reapplication of sunscreen and bug spray. To close the night, we had reflection and shared the different observations we made and processed what we were feeling up until now.
Now we are eating a delicious breakfast that includes rice, beans, plantains, watermelon, bananas, papayas and so much more. We need this hearty breakfast because we are going to visit the worksite for the first time. We are ready to get to work! Stay tuned.
