Starting Off Right

“Water Up, Lotion Up, Repellant Up, and Get Up!” We are moving through our second full day of being here at the Jubilee House Community in Nicaragua. So far, we have gotten a tour of the health clinic we are working at and had a chance to walk around the surrounding community of Nueva Vida. On our walk, we were able to talk to a local who is highly involved with the recycling “job” of a nearby dump. We Made It!

After a long day of travel, we have finally arrived at the Jubilee House Community in Ciudad Sandino, our home for the next three weeks! Tonight we are settling in, eating one of JHC’s delicious dinners, and getting a good night’s sleep so we can start our adventure tomorrow! We heard the rooster call early this morning, at about 6:30 am.  The breeze quietly ruffled the leaves as we drudged to prepare for breakfast at 7:15.  Breakfast this morning featured a Nicaraguan specialty, white pineapple, that’s right, its white and difficult to find in the United States.  It has an uncanny resemblance to regular yellow pineapple, but its white, and more dulcet.  After breakfast, we had the pleasure of meeting with a local Nicaraguan Professor Cirilo Otera.  He spoke about the local and national economy, and the role of the government and workforce.  He then took many questions from […]
